Trainee/Internship Program
The Trainee/Internship Program gives international students/participants the chance to experience intern and trainee positions with U.S. businesses and organizations. Qualified participants are matched with organizations to receive practical on-the-job training, gain career experience, and improve their professional skills and resume. Both the Trainee and the Intern programs must directly relate to the participant’s career field of study/expertise.
Maximum duration is 12 to 18 months respectively, depending on the participant’s field of study and/or occupational field. The program allows for one month of travel upon completion.
Program Eligibility
The Internship
- Must be currently enrolled in and pursuing studies at the degree level or certificate-granting post-secondary academic institution.
- Graduated from a tertiary institution no more than 12 months prior to his or her J-1 exchange visitor program start date.
- The maximum duration in any field is 12 months.
- Be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English
The Trainee
- Must have a degree or professional certificate from a tertiary/post-secondary academic institution.
- Have at least one year of prior related work experience in his or her occupational field
- Have work experience in his or her occupational field
- The maximum duration is 18 months
- Be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English
Participants must provide proof that they are:
- At least 20 years of age.
- Have a university degree or a professional certificate.
- Have at least 3-5 years of work experience, exceptions for graduate students are a possibility.
- Have experience in the desired field of training
- Able to speak English well
- Flexible, open-minded, and hardworking
Registration Steps
- Pay a non-refundable/non-transferable registration fee

- Submit a copy of your degree/certificate
- Submit a copy of your Resume
- Submit a colour copy of the information pages of your passport
- Submit two (2) passport size pictures
- Copy of Police Record
- Medical Report (upon request)
- Submit 2 references (Forms are online)
Program Fees Include
- Guaranteed work placement secured prior to arrival (except for self-arranged participants)

Program fees does NOT include:
- Visa application/processing fees at the U.S. Consulate/Embassy
- Round trip airfare
- Airport transfers
- Transportation expenses
- Any daily living expenses including rent, utilities, furnishings, meals etc.
- Any expenses at the place of employment
SELF-ARRANGED JOBS
Applicants who have arranged their own jobs in the United States must submit a written offer of employment or fill out a sponsor employment form. An official employment offer must be on company letterhead and must clearly state the following:
- Company name, contact address phone number, and fax number
- Contact name and e-mail
- Job start and end date
- Pay rate
- Housing description
- Detail training plan
N.B Any falsified, forged, or fabricated job offers will be rejected without refund.
